Sassa gold cards are issued by Postbank and can be used at banks’ ATMs, SAPO branches, retailers and Cash Payment Points (CPP) via the National Payment System (NPS). Visa and Mastercard cards will expire after five years, so you’ll need to replace them.

Currently, 5.9 million Sassa beneficiaries use gold cards, most of which will expire by June 2023. To avoid not being able to access funds, Sassa encourages its clients to check the expiration dates of their cards and replace them.

Social grant recipients are assured that all payments will be processed as normal and that funds will be safely stored in their bank accounts.

In order to avoid non-access of these funds, recipients may replace their gold cards at the identified SAPO branches or at Postbank, a participating retailer, or they can withdraw funds using the Postbank cardless withdrawal option. It is also possible for recipients to use the services of another bank.A change of payment method can be requested at Sassa’s nearest office or alternative location.
