Various higher education institutions have agreed to participate in the NSFAS Accommodation Pilot Project.

Ensuring Conducive Learning Environments

NSFAS is committed to guaranteeing that students reside in accommodation that supports optimal learning conditions. In collaboration with public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, NSFAS aims to elevate the standards of student living.

Participation of 39 Public Higher Education Institutions

NSFAS has announced the involvement of 39 public higher education institutions in the student accommodation pilot project for the year 2024. This decision follows successful engagements with multiple institutions, emphasizing the importance of improving student living conditions.

Comprehensive Support from NSFAS

As a vital financial aid provider, NSFAS extends comprehensive bursaries to students across South African public universities and TVET colleges. The bursary covers tuition and registration fees, meals, stationery, and a monthly accommodation allowance for over one million students.

Focus on Student Accommodation Quality

NSFAS’s Student Accommodation Pilot project aims to ensure that the financial aid provided is allocated to accommodation that is conducive to studying. The initiative seeks to prevent students from residing in inadequate housing and is reliant on collaborative efforts with participating institutions.

Successful Engagements and Expansion

Recent successful engagements with institutions such as Vaal University of Technology, Tshwane University of Technology, and Sedibeng TVET College mark the initiation of the NSFAS Student Accommodation Pilot Project for 2024. Additional meetings are planned with Tshwane North and Tshwane South TVET Colleges, with the project expanding to include a total of 22 TVET Colleges and 17 Universities.
