Nsfas Appeals For 2023 Now Open

NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a South African government initiative that provides financial assistance to eligible students to pursue their studies at tertiary institutions. As Nsfas received more than one million bursary applications through the myNsfas portal as of Friday, 20 January 2023. In 2023, funding has already been approved for 156 000 students.Many students who applied for Nsfas bursaries for the 2023 academic year will be unsuccessful and will not receive funding.

It is important to note that unsuccessful NSFAS applicants can appeal their rejection status if they believe they deserve funding. NSFAS bursary applicants are reminded that they must meet the bursary criteria to be considered.

The NSFAS Appeals Process

  • Go to myNSFAS
  • Log into your myNSFAS account.
  • Click the ‘Track Funding Progress’ option.
  • Check the application progress tabs.
  • If your application status reflects an unsuccessful message, you may submit an appeal by clicking on the ‘Submit Appeal Tab’.
  • Once you are on the ‘Application Appeal’ page, you can see the reason for your unsuccessful application status.
  • You are then able to choose the appeal reason.
  • Upload certified supporting documents to support your reason.
  • Click ‘Submit Appeal’.

An appeal application will be responded to by NSFAS within 30 days.
