Over 30 000 Students Set To Graduate From Unisa

The University of South Africa (Unisa) has officially begun its autumn graduations.

In a statement released by the institution, the Principal and Vice Chancellor, Professor Puleng LenkaBula, presided over the first of the graduation series on 22 March 2023 at the Muckleneuck Campus in Pretoria.

There are 87 graduation ceremonies scheduled in the year that Unisa celebrates its 150th anniversary, which will see approximately 35 000 students graduate. From 22 March to 8 June 2023, graduation ceremonies will be held in seven regions, namely Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, East London, Mbombela, Polokwane, and Bloemfontein.

Prof. Puleng LenkaBula said

Graduations are the hallmark and pinnacle of trajectories that students follow in the life-long pursuit of wisdom and knowledge in the various degrees they undertake at Unisa. Universities showcase students’ successes and completion of the educational and research processes through graduation ceremonies.

A protest by members of the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) forced Unisa to postpone some of its graduation ceremonies last year.Currently, the university is in direct contact with all of this year’s graduates to inform them of their graduation dates and times.

Former President Thabo Mbeki, the Chancellor of the University of South Africa, will officiate at graduation ceremonies in Pretoria on 29 March 2023 at 18:00, in Mbombela on 15 April at 18:00, and in Durban on 08 June 2023 at 18:00.
