As a result of protests in the province, learners have lost hours of learning that they can’t make up. It is usually the school that takes the blame when learners fail. In Kanyamazane, the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education held public hearings on the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill.

Public input has been sought on the situation. As a result, the clauses in the bill will be aligned with new educational developments.

The Portfolio Committee has processed submissions from community members to parliament. Parliamentary oral submissions have also been processed. Public comments will now be sought by the Portfolio Committee.
