Nsfas 2023 Funding Decisions Now Being Released
Bursary applicants who submitted applications to Nsfas will receive their funding decisions on Monday, 6 February 2023. Applicants will be notified of their NSFAS status for the 2023 academic year once they receive it.
- The funding list for Non-SASSA applicants and returning students will be released to institutions by the 6th of February 2023.Â
Applicants who do not qualify for funding through the South African Social Security Agency and returning students are required to submit financial and/or academic eligibility verifications. Third-party providers, such as banks and institutions, assist Nsfas with this verification process. Funding decisions have already been sent to one cohort of students. Grant recipients receive provisional approval for funding when they submit their applications to Sassa.
“Nsfas made funding decisions for First-Time Entering (FETN) Sassa applications immediately after they were submitted. Student application status was immediately communicated to these students,” said Nsfas.Sassa grant beneficiaries who meet the financial eligibility requirements for Nsfas funding are one of the main reasons Nsfas can provisionally approve their applications. As soon as a student has registered at a university, their funding will be confirmed.
If a student is funded by Nsfas, they receive a comprehensive bursary that aims to cover the costs related to their studies. This includes the full payment of their tuition and accommodation costs as well as receiving several allowances.

Students who receive an unsuccessful Nsfas application status can appeal the decision made by Nsfas. However, appeals must be completed before the 20 February 2023 deadline announced by the financial aid scheme.Â
