Students with the most need benefit from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), as it is designed to help those who need it the most.

As one of the country’s most coveted bursaries, the NSFAS bursary is widely known. The main reason for this is that the bursary:

  • Courses covered by the program must be taken at a registered institution in the country.
  • In order to qualify for the bursary, an applicant must demonstrate financial need, rather than meet academic requirements.

Students seek NSFAS bursaries for many reasons, but they are all attributed to its accessibility. Due to its accessibility, NSFAS typically receives around 1 million applications per year because of its accessibility to prospective tertiary students.

It is becoming increasingly difficult for applicants to keep track of the progress of their applications as the numbers continue to rise.

Applicants have been able to track their applications much easier in recent years. Students can track their progress on their phones besides using myNSFAS’s portal for tracking.

The phone tracking method works as follows:

  • Students must dial the USSD code *120*67327#
  • Students must then follow the prompts to track.
